    Rosa Mexicano
As I walked through the huge wooden doors at the front of Rosa Mexicana I immediately encountered a friendly place filled with fantastic smells. Located on 153 Waterfront Street, Oxon Hill Maryland, Rosa Mexicana is the best Mexican style restaurant around. After being open for almost 30 years in the National Harbor, Rosa Mexicana has perfected the art of cooking delicious food, having wonderful service, and leaving you with an experience that is like no other.

Sitting and eating at Rosa Mexicana had me in shock. First of all the atmosphere was fantastic. The first thing I encountered was the pleasant, young hostess that greeted my parents, my two younger brothers, and me as we entered. She smiled as we asked for a table for five and promptly replied with a polite answer that it would be about a ten minute wait. After five minutes of sitting in comfortable chairs, a gentlemen called our name and lead us to our table. It was lovely that the hostess told us the wait was longer then it actually was because one of the most frustrating things a restaurant can do is make you wait longer than they promised. I was so glad Rosa Mexicana did not make this mistake and it was a great sign of how the rest of our visit was going to go. On our way to our table there were authentic masks hung on the wall. They were very colorful and different which captured the kids and occupied them with their fascinating looks. Opposite of the mask wall was a short, but very wide waterfall. Pretty stones lined the wall and kept the gorgeously flowing water contained. At the bottom was a mini pool where the water collected, waiting to be cycled through again. This intrigued my brothers and they were fascinated by the whole thing. All of these wonderful things that happened just in the few moments we arrived really set a nice and comfortable mood.

Not only does Rosa Mexicana have short waits and outstanding walls, but it has a bounty of positive things about it. We were seated at medium sized, round table set with colorful plates and ridged glass cups. On this particular visit, my family was seated where we had a perfect view of the whole harbor. We could see the clear, smooth water along with the huge cargo boats cutting across the water in the distance. Best of all, we had a terrific view of “the Question Board” as my brother called it. Visiting the restaurant around Christmas time, there was a jumbotron that flashed multiple choice Christmas questions like “How many reindeer pull Santa’s sleigh?” Even though the answers where obvious, it was still entertaining to guess with my family and wait for the answer to pop up seconds later After having a blast, we decided to look at the menu. Since Rosa Mexicana is a Mexican restaurant, all the dishes were in Spanish but had the English definition written next to them and English descriptions underneath. This was a neat addition to the Mexican experience. In perfect timing our waiter came by, introduced himself as Juan, and took our drink and appetizer order. Having ordered a bowl of table side guacamole, another server promptly approached our table and starting whipping up fresh guacamole right in front of our eyes. My family quickly dug in and the dish was gone in a matter of moments. The soft avocado paired perfectly with the citric lime juice and organic cilantro. I enjoyed listening to my family talk in the quiet environment that was set at the restaurant while we waited for our food.
