This old game is more fun than it looks. It is better than the wii version of madden 11. It has more game modes and better graphics. This game is a better choice overall. You may not believe me because it is an ancient game, but once I tell you more about it, you will see that old games aren't so bad!
First let me start with the basic game modes, one of the games modes is superstar. This is basically an older version of myplayer or mycarrer. For those who don't know what that is, it is a gamemode where you play as yourself in the NFL. You start your career as a rookie and keep getting better. This gamemode is very fun and is not on madden 11. But there are a lot of things wrong with this gamemode as well. When making your player you have no control over your hair style. You can pick a face but you cannot customize it. You cant skip to when your player plays next, that is available now in present games like madden 15. You can also change when you play. It takes some exploring to do it but it is worth it. You have to change the depth chart in the pause menu. In superstar you can pick any position. You have a calendar to where you check your schedule. You have 4 practices a week, and work on the gameplan 3 times. There is a frustrating glitch in practice mode. Should you have a big defensive play, an interception or sack for example, the entire game crashes. It is a very fun game but you may get impatient with the problems.
Franchise mode allows you to play as your favorite team. You can have a fantasy draft where you draft any player. You can turn your salary cap on or off. There are no practices so it is hard to upgrade your players. The regular gameplay is really fun but again there are some negatives. The positives are that they have historic teams from as far back as the 1975. They don’t have the players names, but they have their names. There are also NFC Hall of Fame and AFC Hall of Fame teams.The teams include all the hall of fame players from previous years in the NFC or AFC. These teams do have all the names.The offensive and defensive playbook are obviously outdated and do not have very complex plays. A huge negative is every time you get a big play it has you “celebrate.” You have to move the wii remote in all directions to celebrate the big play. It is the most annoying thing ever. You can press A to skip it though. Every time you skip it it still takes more time to go to the next play.
Another mode available is Party Mode. You and a friend(s) get to play against each other in mini games. In my opinion this is my favorite game mode. In the beginning, you choose any amount of mini games you want to play and what mini games you want to play. My friend Kenny said “The regular game is ok, but the mini games and party mode is the greatest.” I agree completely with Kenny. The regular 11v11 is alright but the mini games are better than any other madden. The “new” game mode that is in the game is 5v5. It is very simple. Offense gets four plays, run, deep pass, medium pass, short pass. Defense gets 4 plays as well, Blitz, cover short, cover medium, cover deep. You can turn big head mode on. Which as you might guess, gives all players huge heads.
Old games aren't so bad after all! As you can see old games can be better than games made after itself. Madden 09 all-play sells for only 38$, while madden 11 sells for 60$! You save money and get a better product. It is a great gift for this holiday season.
