Being stranded on an island for 5 years can really change a person. Oliver Queen, played by Stephan Amell, is stranded for 5 years on a remote island after his father’s boat is caught in a major storm. CW’s TV-drama, “Arrow”, is based on a DC comic called “The Green Arrow”. Directed by many different people Queen and his four sidekicks, Roy Harper (Colton Haynes), Felicity Smoke (Emily Bett Rickards), Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and John Diggle (David Ramsey) fight crime at night. Friends from the past gone bad and mad men are taken down by Queen and Harper.
In this action-packed series Oliver Queen loses his dad to a shipwreck near the island Lian Yu. Oliver thought that Sara, who was on the boat with him, was killed when the boat sank, turns out she was rescued. Sara was taken in by a group of assassins and was trained to kick butt. “Arsenal” also known as Roy Harper in the series goes from a normal teenaged boy to a super-strong, crime-fighting, hero. Felicity Smoke is the brains behind this operation. She tracks the bad guys and are Oliver’s ‘eyes in the sky’ when he is on a mission. John Diggle started off as just Ollie’s designated driver but becomes his little side kick when he finds out that Oliver is the Arrow. The main character, Oliver Queen, hunts his ‘prey’ using a bow and arrow. He also went from a killing machine only focused on fixing his dads mistakes, to fighting for his own survival and doing things for the better of the city.
Manue Bennett portrays Slade Wilson or Deathstroke, Oliver’s ‘friend’ from the island. A killer on the hunt for Mr. Queens’s blood, revenge for the death of his island crush Shado played by Celina Jade. Laurell Lance, played by the actress Katie Cassidy, and her father Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) are in on Ollie’s little secret. Oliver’s secret identity as the ‘Arrow’ is shared among a few trusted people. Roy Harper has a little secret too, not only is he working for the Arrow and is part of his little ‘gang’ he is supernaturally strong. His relationship with Thia Queen (Willa Holland), Oliver’s sister, puts her in much danger. Their mother Moira Queen (Susanne Thompson) has secrets of her own.
This amazing series has been nominated for many awards. “Arrow” has won Best cinematography in a TV drama, Best visual effects in a dramatic series, and Favorite new series in 2013. The first episode aired October 10th of 2012, with 3 seasons and over 50 episodes. This series is full of realistic problems and sacrifices. Action seems to be the main thing in “Arrow”. Although I wish that there was a bit less of The Arrows life and a bit more of Oliver Queen’s life it is still an amazing series with amazing actors/actresses. From the crime fighting Oliver Queen to the ever sweet and smart Felicity Smoke, each actor/ actress fits their role perfectly. I wouldn’t have chosen anyone else for these roles had I been the casting director. The looks and personalities of the characters are shown wonderfully by the actors and actresses.
Over all “Arrow” is an amazing series. It leaves you on the edge of your seat and you are always left wanting more. I got hooked on the series the first episode. Waiting for the next episode is like waiting to open presents on Christmas morning. The series brings to life DC’s comic “The Green Arrow”.
